Yamato Holdings and Japan Airlines are set to launch a domestic freight network in Japan in April 2024, in an effort to build a sustainable logistics network for long-distance transport. This will stabilize transportation capacity, maintain and improve service quality, minimize risks attributed to natural disasters, and contribute to social issues such as regional revitalization. This move is also expected to reduce overtime hours for truck drivers, as the amended Labor Standards Law comes into effect and significantly impacts logistics providers. The three A321ceo P2F aircraft are planned to operate 21 flights per day on four routes (Tokyo – Kitakyushu, Tokyo – Sapporo, Tokyo – Okinawa, and Okinawa – Kitakyushu). The flights will be operated by Spring Japan Co., Ltd, a JAL consolidated subsidiary.

The three aircraft have arrived in Singapore and are currently undergoing refitting by EFW of Germany. EFW is jointly established by ST Engineering, with specialized experience in the conversion of Airbus aircraft from passenger to freighters, and aircraft manufacturer Airbus.
